Nach der Modernisierung der Open-Air-Fläche startet der Tanzbrunnen am 9. Mai mit Cat Ballou in die neue Sommer-Saison. Nationale und internationale Stars, zahlreiche Festivals und Sport-Events sorgen für einen facettenreichen Mix aus Musik, Kultur und Party – ein Sommer voller Highlights und unvergesslicher Momente direkt am Rhein für alle Generationen.

„Mit Chris de Burgh, Seal, Mark Forster, Köln Olé und Tobi Krell alias „Checker Tobi“ ist für jede Altersgruppe etwas dabei. Und natürlich dürfen unsere Kölschen Highlights nicht fehlen: die Bläck Fööss, Köbes Underground und die Grüngürtelrosen werden ihre Fans auch diesen Sommer wieder am Tanzbrunnen begeistern“, so der Koelncongress Geschäftsführer Ralf Nüsser. Apropos Highlight: Wie auch in den letzten Jahren, wird das musikalische Hauptfeuerwerk der Kölner Lichter wieder von einem Ponton-Schiff aus direkt gegenüber dem Tanzbrunnen-Gelände gezündet und garantiert den Gästen der River Lounge in den Rheinterrassen und im km 689 Cologne Beach Club exklusive Sicht.

Im vergangenen Herbst haben die Modernisierungsmaßnahmen am Tanzbrunnen, durchgeführt von der Stadt Köln, begonnen. „Die Bauarbeiten sind in vollem Gang. Wir sind im Zeitplan und pünktlich zur Saisoneröffnung fertig. Mit der Modernisierung des Open-Air-Bereiches bieten wir den Künstlern und unseren Besuchern mehr Komfort und eine verbesserte Aufenthaltsqualität. Die alten Schirme wurden demontiert und um vier auf insgesamt neun neue, höhere Schirme erweitert. Der Blick auf die Bühne wird damit verbessert und die insgesamt größere Fläche der Schirme schützt die Gäste besser bei Regen und Sonne,“ erläutert Ralf Nüsser. Auch die Bühne wird erneuert. Sie wird entkernt und um eine neues Bühnendach erweitert. Die Modernisierung der Beschallungs- und Bühnentechnik sowie die Ergänzung durch eine Obermaschinerie wird den Künstlern und Veranstaltern mehr Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten bieten und zusätzlich einen schnelleren Auf- und Abbau gewährleisten. Alle Modernisierungsarbeiten finden in enger Abstimmung mit dem Denkmalschutz statt, um die besondere Charakteristik der historischen Eventfläche beizubehalten.

Open-Air-Programm 2026

• Am 9. Mai läutet das Konzert von Cat Ballou mit dem anschließenden, musikalischen Abschluss-Feuerwerk stimmungsvoll die Tanzbrunnen-Saison 2026 ein.
  
• Bereits zum 23. Mal findet der ASV-Nachtlauf statt und startet dieses Jahr erneut am Tanzbrunnen. Am 13. Mai können sich die Läuferinnen und Läufer zwischen der 5 km oder 10 km langen Strecke entscheiden.
  
• Am 30. Mai feiert die Alevitische Gemeinde Jubiläum. Die Alevitische Gemeinde Deutschland K.d.ö.R. (AABF) ist der Dachverband von 161 alevitischen Gemeinden in Deutschland und vertritt die Interessen der hier lebenden Alevitinnen und Aleviten. Mit rund 700.000 Angehörigen zählt sie zu den größten von Menschen mit Migrationsgeschichte gegründeten Organisationen.
  
• Wenn die Egerländer Musikanten, die Oberkrainer, die Höhner und über ein Dutzend weiterer Top-Bands am Kölner Tanzbrunnen auftreten, trifft Virtuosität auf tausende mitreißende Fans – das ist das Original Egerländer Festival: ein Wochenende vom 05. bis 06. Juni voll Tradition, Hits, Lebensfreude, Kölsch und Blasmusik.
  
• Tobi Krell, auch bekannt als Checker Tobi, kommt am 12. Juni an den Tanzbrunnen und bringt coole Experimente auf die Bühne. Alle können mitmachen bei Spielen und Quizfragen rund um die Themen Naturwissenschaften und Technik. Ein Spaß für die ganze Familie.
  
• Am 13. Juni lädt die Föderation demokratischer Arbeitervereine e.V. (DIDF) zum traditionellen Kulturfestival „Für Zusammenhalt und Solidarität“ an den Tanzbrunnen Köln ein. Mit Musik, Tanz, Redebeiträgen und einem Kinderprogramm wird gemeinsam gefeiert. Als Migrantenselbst-organisation setzt sich DIDF für Integration, Solidarität und ein respektvolles Miteinander ein.
  
• Der Stadtmusikverband Köln e. V. veranstaltet am 14. Juni zum 23. Mal das Kölner Musikfest – eine Veranstaltungsreihe, in der Chöre, Orchester und Tanzgruppen im multikulturellen Miteinander auf der Tanzbrunnen-Open-Air-Bühne eine musikalische Reise durch die internationale Musik vorstellen.
  
• Düstere Synths, Rockriffs und intensive Balladen prägen Ethel Cains Debütalbum „Preacher’s Daughter“. Darin verarbeitet sie persönliche, schmerzhafte Erfahrungen – genau wie auf ihrem 2025 erschienenen Album „Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You“, das sie am 16. Juni live und hautnah präsentieren wird.
  
• Doppelte Premiere am 20. Juni: Jeck im Sunnesching erstmals am Kölner Tanzbrunnen – und erstmals mit den Höhnern. Beim größten Festival für kölsche Musik sind Top-Bands wie Kasalla, Brings, Cat Ballou und Miljö dabei. Am 21. Juni geht es mit Jeck im Sunnesching för Pänz an gleicher Stelle weiter.
  
• Am 26. Juni lockt das Hype Festival mit einem hochkarätigen Line-up. Als Top-Acts sorgen Haftbefehl und Souly für besondere Highlights und garantieren eine energiegeladene Show. Das Festival verspricht einen ganzen Tag voller Musik, Stimmung und Live-Performance – ein Muss für Fans von Hip-Hop, Rap und Urban-Music.
  
• Busta Rhymes, Treach of Naughty by Nature und viele weitere Live-Acts und DJs. All das gibt es beim Old but Gold Ü30 Hip-Hop Festival am 04. Juli.
  
• Kindsköpfe im Park ist die Open-Air-Reihe von Deine Freunde – Konzerte unter freiem Himmel, mit viel Energie, neuen Songs und besonderer Sommeratmosphäre. Am 05. Juli freuen wir uns auf ein einzigartiges Open-Air-Erlebnis für die ganze Familie.
  
• Der Tanzbrunnen verwandelt sich beim Even Flow Festival am 11. und 12. Juli in einen magischen Ort für alle Fans von Singer-SongwriterInnen und Indie-Popmusik. Zwei Tage lang steht hier jedes Wort, jede Zeile und jeder Ton im Mittelpunkt – ein generations- und identitätsübergreifendes Festival, das nachklingt.
  
• Fans von Chris de Burgh dürfen sich am 14. Juli auf einen besonderen Abend freuen: der Sänger, Gitarrist und Pianist präsentiert über 30 Songs aus fünf Jahrzehnten. Neben Klassikern wie „The Lady In Red“ zeigt er dabei die ganze Bandbreite seines Repertoires – von einfühlsamen Balladen bis zu kraftvollen Popsongs.
  
• Am 20. Juli feiert Seal am Tanzbrunnen über 30 Jahre seiner Erfolgsalben Seal I & II. Der vielfach ausgezeichnete Sänger, bekannt für Hits wie „Killer“, „Crazy“ und „Kiss From A Rose“, blickt auf über 30 Millionen verkaufte Alben und zahlreiche Awards zurück.
  
• Vom 24. bis 26. Juli sorgt das XX. Amphi Festival mit Stars der Gothic-, New Wave-, Post Punk- und Industrial-Szene wie Eisbrecher, Joachim Witt oder Emmon für einen ausverkauften Tanzbrunnen. Beim jährlichen Familientreffen der schwarzen Szene ist beste Stimmung garantiert.
  
• Am 1. August tauchen die Kölner Lichter – das große musiksynchrone Feuerwerk auf dem Rhein – die Rheinufer in ein funkelndes Lichtermeer. Auch die Rheinterrassen und der km 689 Cologne Beach Club verwandeln sich anlässlich der Kölner Lichter wieder in die exklusive River Lounge mit kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten der Koelncongress Gastronomie und einem spektakulären Blick auf das Feuerwerk, den Dom und die Altstadt.
  
• Pop-Ikone Rick Astley kommt nach Deutschland und macht im Rahmen seiner Tour „Summer Shows 2026“ am 4. August Halt am Tanzbrunnen. Der britische Sänger begeistert seine Fans mit einer Mischung aus Welthits, Fan-Favoriten und neueren Songs. Als Special Guest wird die britische Band Lightning Seeds den Abend eröffnen und das Publikum auf den Konzertabend einstimmen.
  
• Tream hat sich als einer der dynamischsten Live-Acts im deutschsprachigen Raum etabliert. Seine Shows verbinden Party, Emotionen und Energie – das Publikum ist von Anfang bis Ende Teil der Performance. Tream versteht es, seine Fans mitzureißen – am 8. August bei uns am Tanzbrunnen.
  
• Endlich kehrt Mark Forster zurück auf die Open-Air-Bühnen: Am 13. August wird er seine Fans am Tanzbrunnen mit seinen Hits und neuen Songs begeistern. Mit energiegeladenen Performances, emotionalen Momenten und seiner unverwechselbaren Stimme verspricht der Abend ein unvergessliches Live-Erlebnis unter freiem Himmel zu werden.
  
• Helge Schneider beutelt die „Zwergfelle“ seiner Zuschauer bis aufs Äußerste: „Ellebogen vom Tich!“ ein Abend voller Virtuosität und anarchischem Humor am 15. August.
  
• „Mein größtes Konzert. Zuhause.“ – Nach 18 Jahren Karriere feiert Mo-Torres am 21. August in seiner Heimatstadt Köln sein bisher größtes Konzert am Tanzbrunnen. Mit 150 Millionen Streams, neun nahezu ausverkauften Touren, drei Top-10-Alben und über 600 Shows wird die „musikalische Volljährigkeit“ gebührend gefeiert.
  
• Am 23. August machen Geese Halt am Tanzbrunnen. Sie stehen für experimentierfreudigen Rock – vom College-Post-Punk bis zu klassischeren Sounds. Mit ihrem dritten Studioalbum „Getting Killed“ gelang der Band aus New York 2025 der Durchbruch.
  
• Mit tiefgründigen Texten, ehrlichen Gefühlen und seinem unverwechselbaren Charme berührt Florian Künstler sein Publikum. Seine Songs erzählen authentische Geschichten, die Hoffnung geben und Trost spenden. Mit im Gepäck am 28. August: sein neues Album „Alles nur geliehen“, das im Sommer 2026 erscheint.
  
• Die Bläck Fööss und der Tanzbrunnen: das ist pure kölsche Lebensfreude seit 50 Jahren. Mit authentischen Texten, mitreißender Performance und unverwechselbarem Charme schaffen sie ein unvergessliches Erlebnis voll kölschem Lebensgefühl – ein Muss für alle Fans der Domstadt und ihrer Musik. Wir feiern gemeinsam 50 Jahre Bläck Fööss am Tanzbrunnen am 29. August.
  
• Neues entdecken, Bewährtes genießen: Bodo Wartke und die SchönenGutenA-Band präsentieren am 2. September Klassiker und ganz neue Lieder des Klavierkabarettisten. Das speziell für das Band-Arrangement ausgewählte Repertoire umfasst neben beliebten Songs von Bodo Wartke auch Lieder in Rohfassung sowie Textexperimente aus der Band-Werkstatt.
  
• Kölsche Musikcomedy am Tanzbrunnen: Am 4. September und mit viel Spaß werden bei der traditionellen Spätsommer-Party der Stunksitzungs-Band Köbes Underground kölsche Cover-Versionen internationaler Hits gefeiert.
  
• Am 6. September wird Köln wieder zur Bühne des beliebten Köln Triathlon. Der Wettbewerb verbindet sportlichen Ehrgeiz, beeindruckende Kulissen und die unverwechselbare Atmosphäre der Rheinmetropole. Zieleinlauf der Sportlerinnen und Sportler ist am Tanzbrunnen. Zusätzlich am Eventwochenende öffnet die Tri.EXPO Messe am Tanzbrunnen ihre Türen für Laufsportbegeisterte. Hier kann man alles über die Wettbewerbe erfahren und innovatives Equipment entdecken.
  
• Nach dem fulminanten Comeback im letzten Sommer kehrt die Linus´ Talentprobe auch dieses Jahr zurück an den Tanzbrunnen. Am 11. September stellen sich wieder mutige Sängerinnen und Sänger dem kritischen Kölner Publikum. Im Anschluss wird im Theater am Tanzbrunnen bei der Aftershowparty weitergefeiert.
  
• Die Grüngürtelrosen sind zurück – größer, bunter und emotionaler denn je. Neben dem Kölner Männerchor selbst erwarten euch am 12. September langjährige Wegbegleiter und neue Acts. Weiter geht’s ab 22 Uhr bei der Party der offiziellen GGR-Aftershow im Theater am Tanzbrunnen. Mit dem Ticketkauf wird auch ein guter Zweck unterstütz: In den letzten drei Jahren flossen über 75.000 € an Organisationen wie das Regenbogenland und den Cologne Pride.
  
• Köln OLÉ - Die größte Mallorca Party-Tour der Welt kommt nach einigen Jahren Pause wieder an den Tanzbrunnen. Am 19. September erwartet die Besucher eine ausgelassene Mallorca-Party mit den größten Hits, bester Stimmung und einem Line-up aus Publikumslieblingen wie Mia Julia, Mickie Krause, Julian Sommer, Lorenz Büffel, Frenzy und Calvin Kleinen.
  
• „Ein weiterer Höhepunkt erwartet uns im Oktober. Erstmals findet am Tanzbrunnen ein Oktoberfest statt,“ freut sich Ralf Nüsser. „Mit diesem Veranstaltungsformat können wir die Open-Air-Fläche am Tanzbrunnen auch nach der Sommer-Saison noch einige Tage effektiv nutzen und bieten unseren Gästen ein zusätzliches Event-Highlight.“ Bei den Royal Wiesn heißt es ab dem 9. Oktober 2026 in Köln: O’zapft is! Ein echt bayerisches Volksfest – mit beheiztem Festzelt, mitten in Köln und in Kooperation mit der Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg und unter der Schirmherrschaft von Seiner Königlichen Hoheit Prinz Luitpold von Bayern.
  
• Im Herbst ist wieder die traditionelle Karnevalsparty der Karnevalsgesellschaft Die Große von 1823 auf dem Open-Air-Gelände geplant: 11. im 11. - Der Große Kölsche Countdown am Dienstag, den 11. November 2026.

For decades now, this fair has taken place once every two years in November. Following a break, the fair re-started in Cologne in November 2024 with some 80 exhibitors. A total of about 11,000 companies, drivers and persons familiar with the taxi trade from the worlds of business and government attended the European Taxi Fair. These visitors came from all parts of Germany and from other European countries.

The next European Taxi Fair will be held at the trade fair grounds in Cologne Deutz from 6 to 7 November.

The chairman of the Fachvereinigung Personenverkehr Nordrhein Taxi Mietwagen e.V. (Trade Association for Taxis and Hire Cars, North Rhine) and organiser of the fair, Markus Gossmann, says,  “In 2024 the trade fair got going again in Cologne. In 2026 it is once again taking place in hall 1, a location that suited both exhibitors and visitors in 2024.“

At the end of February 2026, approximately 55 exhibitors who were present in hall 1 of the trade fair site in Cologne-Deutz in 2024, and therefore received the first invitation to exhibit, had booked stand spaces – a significant increase compared with the previous fair, holding out the prospect of a lively European Taxi Fair once again.

Ralf Nüsser, general manager of Koelncongress GmbH comments, „The European Taxi Fair increased in size by about 23% from one event to the next after returning from Essen back to Cologne. This is not only good news, but also confirms the importance of an attractive venue that has excellent infrastructure and is a place to spend quality time, complemented by an attractive programme in the city.“

Many more (potential) exhibitors known to the Fachvereinigung will receive the public invitation to take part at the end of February. The Fachvereinigung looks forward to welcoming further interested participants. The invitation to exhibit and the booking form can be found at www.eurotaximesse.de.

From 09 March 2026 onwards, the website www.eurotaximesse.de will again show the up-to-date hall plan and the list of exhibitors.

At the next European Taxi Fair, the taxi and hire-car trades will discuss important issues such as the latest developments in the law on passenger transport, powering systems and energy supply, the integration of the trade into public transport systems and inclusive means of transport with adapted vehicles. The famous prize draw with a taxi as the main prize will also take place again in 2026. As in 2024, the events of the next European Taxi Fair will be recorded in images and as audio.

We were delighted to once again host DACH+HOLZ International in Cologne this year. From 24 to 27 February 2026, the northern exhibition grounds of Koelnmesse — including Halls 6, 7, 8 and 9 as well as the adjacent outdoor exhibition area — became the central meeting point for carpenters, roofers, sheet metal workers (plumbing trade), architects, and decision-makers from Germany and abroad.

Since its launch in 2008, the leading trade fair for the roofing and timber construction industries has alternated between Stuttgart and Cologne every two years.

A total of 564 exhibitors from 28 countries showcased their products and services across approximately 71,000 m² of exhibition space. With around 56,000 trade visitors, DACH+HOLZ achieved the highest attendance ever recorded at the Cologne venue, making it the most successful edition in its history.

Exhibitors, trade associations, and visitors alike rated the event as an outstanding industry gathering and valued it as an indispensable community platform for face-to-face dialogue, networking, and shared experiences. DACH+HOLZ also featured a diverse supporting programme focused on key future topics for the sector, including sustainability and artificial intelligence. In the Start-up & Innovation Area 2026, companies jointly presented the latest developments in the construction trades. As always, promoting young talent in the skilled crafts sector played a central role.

After the destruction in World War II, the Gürzenich Cologne was rebuilt within six years and ceremoniously reopened on October 2, 1955 – exactly 70 years ago.

During World War II, British and American bombers reduced Cologne to rubble. Not only was the cathedral severely damaged, the Gürzenich was also hit. Only the outer walls remained intact. However, as early as 1948, the people of Cologne decided to rebuild their “parlour.”

On October 2, 1955, after six years of reconstruction, the Gürzenich was ceremoniously reopened. Konrad Adenauer gave an opening speech in which he explicitly emphasized that the festive and representative Gürzenich was also meant to be used for Carnival. The Gürzenich was intended not only to unite the old with the new but also sorrow with joy. The people of Cologne took their mayor at his word. Then, as now, Carnival shows and balls are among the most popular events.

The Gürzenich was originally built between 1441 and 1447. At the time, it served as a municipal trading hall and venue for celebrations hosted by emperors and citizens. It later became the most important and popular event location in Cologne. The first Carnival ball was held in the Gürzenich as early as 1824. Starting in 1857, the Cölner Concert Society held its concert series of the Gürzenich Orchestra there.

When the Gürzenich Orchestra moved into the newly opened Philharmonie in 1986, new uses had to be found for the Gürzenich. In 1994, the specially founded KölnKongress GmbH (now Koelncongress GmbH) took over the operation of the venue. This was followed by a modernization phase that largely preserved the historic structure.

Emperors, queens and kings have visited the Gürzenich, as have heads of state and celebrities from the arts and culture. The Cologne Summit Days in June 1999 – no fewer than six high-level political events – brought the Gürzenich into the international spotlight. Within just a few days, it hosted meetings of the European Council, the foreign ministers of the G8 countries, the heads of state and government of the G7 nations, as well as several special sessions focused on resolving the Kosovo conflict.

The listed Gürzenich has not lost any of its longstanding tradition as a festive venue by and for the people of Cologne. Throughout its long history, it has been – and still remains – “Cologne’s front parlour” and one of the most prestigious event venues in Europe.

Confex and numerous new events strengthen Cologne's position in the event market. As a trade fair and congress location, the city is establishing its leading position in the national and international event business. Confex, which opened in June 2024, made a significant contribution to this, inspiring event planners in its first year of operation and providing new impetus for trade fairs, congresses and events. Koelnmesse GmbH and its subsidiary Koelncongress GmbH are also very pleased with the new additions to the guest trade fair and congress business for the coming years.

Success story: Confex drives innovation — autumn congress schedule full
In its first year of operation, Confex has already achieved impressive results. 41 events took place over 63 days, attended by around 45,000 participants and included numerous corporate events organized by well-known companies from the financial and insurance sectors as well as major IT and scientific congresses. Looking ahead to the coming years, Confex already has an excellent booking schedule through to 2032 and is also gaining a new target group. Numerous medical societies have decided to hold their annual congresses at Confex long term. This target group previously found it difficult to find suitable venues in Cologne due to their size requirements. Confex now effectively closes this gap.

"We are delighted by this extremely positive booking schedule, as it shows the tremendous attractiveness Confex has for event planners," says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH. "In addition to the professional event logistics, the city of Cologne is extraordinarily welcoming of its guests. The guest event organisers also feel this. Trade fair culture comes to life here — with heart and soul, many years of experience and individual solutions for every event."

In October 2025, the DGHO Annual Meeting for Haematology and Oncology will be returning to Cologne after 35 years. Around 5,500 international experts from the fields of science and medicine are expected to attend the four-day congress at Confex to present and discuss new approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases and cancer. The 55th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, which has already chosen Confex as its venue for several years, as well as the 60th Congress of the German-speaking Society for Intraocular Lens Implantation, Interventional and Refractive Surgery will follow in spring 2026.

A very special premiere will take place in September 2025. Deutsche Telekom's DIGITAL X - Focus Edition, a new platform for focused and exclusive exchange on the key issues of the digital future, will welcome up to 4,000 trade visitors from business, politics and society to this year's focus topic "Ready for AI" at Koelnmesse's Confex.
In addition to this, a long-standing regular customer, the VdS Brandschutztage, with over 150 exhibitors and 4,600 visitors from 20 countries, will return to the Congress Centre of Koelnmesse in both 2025 and 2026.

In addition to the successful launch of Confex, Koelnmesse and its subsidiary Koelncongress also see an accompanying massive surge in demand for guest trade fairs at the Koelnmesse grounds. Newcomers, returnees and long-term partnerships are gaining importance in the portfolio.
RX (Reed Exhibitions Limited), for example, has decided to host PSI - the leading European trade fair for promotional products in Cologne permanently starting in January 2027. More than 11,000 trade visitors will meet around 5,000 member companies of the leading PSI network. This will be another highlight from the RX event portfolio in Cologne.

"We would like to thank RX for their trust in the cooperation with Koelncongress and are pleased to welcome PSI to Cologne in addition to their FIBO and Chemspec events," emphasizes Ralf Nüsser.

Chemspec Europe, the international trade fair for fine and speciality chemicals, took place in Cologne again in spring 2025 and will once again be held in the location in 2026. In November 2026, the traditional BIO-Europe will also return to Cologne. Both events serve to strengthen Cologne's importance as an innovative location for chemistry and biotechnology.
Back in July, the ZEG Bike Show celebrated its comeback after a four-year break with a new event format in the cathedral city, which will take place again in Cologne's exhibition halls in summer 2026 to mark the 60th anniversary of the bicycle buying cooperative, ZEG.
The European Taxi Fair, which has been held every two years for decades, was once again held in Cologne in November 2024 after a one-off interruption and will open its doors to trade visitors at the Koelnmesse grounds again in November 2026.
Two new specialized guest trade fairs are also coming to Cologne. In September 2025, the Power Transmission & Distribution Technology EXPO will celebrate its premiere as a compact trade fair focused on the energy sector. Starting in November 2026, there will be something to listen to at Confex: the first Finest Audio Show Cologne will invite trade visitors and end consumers to Cologne every year.
In addition to the new guest trade fairs, it is encouraging to see that various companies will be holding their exhibitions and corporate events at the Koelnmesse site and other Koelncongress properties in the coming years.

Cologne is a sought-after event location with Koelncongress as a reliable partner
Cologne and the trade fair location not only score highly in terms of hospitality and professional support, but also as a location for science, innovation and business. Its central location in the heart of Europe and good international accessibility also speak for themselves. The inner-city location, the short distances between the city centre, trade fair grounds and the ICE train station along with a diverse cultural offering create additional added value and make the Koelnmesse grounds particularly attractive for event organisers and guests.
The Koelncongress portfolio also includes top locations such as the historic Gürzenich, the Rheinterrassen or the magnificent Flora, which can be booked as a full-service package for side events such as evening or exhibitor events in addition to the guest event.
Koelncongress is already expecting more than one million guests to come to Cologne in the current financial year for congresses, guest trade fairs and a wide range of events.
The hotel and restaurant industry as well as numerous other sectors in the region also benefit from these guests.

The Confex had an impressive kick-off year and has established itself as a top location for a wide range of event formats: 41 events spanning 63 days with 45,000 participants.

Koelncongress GmbH brought the first year of operation of the Confex venue to a glittering close at the end of June 2025 with an anniversary celebration to mark the 150th birthday of Zurich Group Germany.

"Experience communication is an increasingly important success factor in modern corporate cultures. Corresponding events are the key to success. But special content only works in the right setting," says Bernd O. Engelien, Head of Policy & Communications at Zurich Group Germany. "Confex provided the perfect setting for a first-class show, party and event experience for 3,500 guests!"

This event was not only a special highlight in the Confex calendar, but also a very special moment for the Koelncongress team itself, as it marked the unofficial anniversary of Confex.

"We could hardly have celebrated the first anniversary of Germany's newest and most innovative trade fair, congress and event location in a better way," says Mandy Pahl-Bauerfeind, authorised signatory and member of the management board of Koelncongress, the Koelnmesse subsidiary responsible for marketing Confex. The employees of Koelncongress are available to the organisers from the planning to the implementation of each event. "There's no such thing as can't," says Pahl-Bauerfeind, describing her team's commitment and the seemingly unlimited possibilities that the highly flexible and multifunctional Confex offers.

Since the grand opening as part of the ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of Koelnmesse GmbH on 27 June 2024 with over 2,000 guests, Confex has hosted 41 events spanning 63 days with a total of around 45,000 participants. The spectrum of formats has ranged from corporate events, guest trade fairs and scientific congresses to business festivals, cultural events and political party conferences. The emergence of new congress topics and initial bookings from renowned medical congresses is encouraging, as they open up promising market opportunities and establish Confex as a driving force in the German and international event market.

Confex thus plays a key role in shaping the city's location portfolio and underscores Cologne's position as a leading location for national and international congresses and events. In addition to this, Confex provides outstanding location advantages that event planners are seeking: a central inner-city location, walking distance to an ICE train station, over 2,000 hotel rooms in the immediate vicinity, as well as the variety of cultural and other offerings of the cathedral city of Cologne.

With an extremely successful initial year of operation behind it, the Koelncongress team is beginning its second year. And Confex can already boast an excellent number of bookings until 2032.

Today, Koelncongress Managing Director Ralf Nüsser honoured lit.COLOGNE, represented by its management Rainer Osnowski and Rieke Brendel, with an updated plaque of honour and now two stars for two decades at the Tanzbrunnen Köln.

This carnival season, more than 147,000 visitors are celebrating exuberantly in the venues of Koelncongress.

How time flies: On January 10, 2025, this year's Dreigestirn (triumvirate) was officially proclaimed in the Gürzenich, and in just over a week, the street carnival will kick off on Weiberfastnacht.

And the atmosphere in the Koelncongress venues couldn’t be better! Despite the relatively short season, countless carnival revellers are once again dancing and celebrating peacefully in the Gürzenich, in the Theater am Tanzbrunnen (including open-air events), in the Flora, as well as in the Congress-Saal und im Kristallsaal of Koelnmesse.

Under this year’s motto, FasteLOVEnd – Wenn Dräum widder blöhe ("Carnival Love – When Dreams Bloom Again"), a total of 112 carnival events with around 147,000 visitors will take place in the festively decorated venues. In the Gürzenich alone, around 53,000 visitors are expected to attend a total of 40 carniaval events - with five days featuring two sessions per day!
